The application can be obtained at Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Department after 6pm on weekdays and anytime on weekends. Roanoke County requires a carbon-copy application form, however, a sample application form (Sample RCFRD Application) can be downloaded from this website for help in gathering the necessary information..
  • RETURN APPLICATION: Return the completed application to the station between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. during weekdays or anytime during the weekend.  (Junior applicants must return parental consent form with the application.)  When at the station, ask for a volunteer company officer.  The application will need to be signed by a volunteer company officer for you to continue to the next step.  (D.M.V. Check and Criminal History Check)  The volunteer company officer, after signing your application, should give you a copy of the signed application.  The applicant will need to take the copy for further processing. See below.
  • D.M.V. CHECK AND CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK: RoanokeCounty requires all new members provide a copy of their driving record prior to driving any county vehicle. Applicants should obtain their driving record from the VirginiaDepartment of Motor Vehicles. The Roanoke branch is located at the lower level of Crossroads Mall on Hershberger Road. There will be a small fee to acquire this information. Driving records may also be requested through the DMV internet site at www.dmvnow.com . After obtaining your driving record, please call 777-8706 to make an appointment to see the Volunteer Coordinator for RoanokeCounty Fire and Rescue Department.  You will need to take your driving record and the signed copy of your application to the Volunteer Coordinator at the Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Administration Office, which is located in the Public Safety Building at 5925Cove Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019.  At your appointed time, the Volunteer Coordinator will review your driving record and conduct a criminal history check (at no cost to you) as well as other needed paper work.  All information received from these checks is confidential.  Only a letter of approval or disapproval will be sent to the Chief of the company.
  • INTERVIEW WITH THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: The Membership Committee will contact you to arrange an interview.  Most interviews last approximately 30 minutes.  Any certifications and credentials you may have should be presented at this time.  This will also be a good time to ask any questions you may have about the Company. Company Members will be happy to provide you with a tour of our facilities and apparatus as well as detailed information about our operations and becoming a firefighter.
  • VOTED FOR PROBATIONARY MEMBERSHIP STATUS: Approximately one month after your application is received and posted for review, the company will vote to accept or reject your application for probationary status.
