Winter storm - 51 calls in one day

Sunday, February 19, 2012 As the first winter storm of the 2011-2012 season moved into the Roanoke Valley, Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Department members kept five trucks staffed and on the road for most of the day.  Units responded to numerous accidents, reported house fires, and wire down calls. Over twenty volunteers staffed the station during the storm and handled all calls in the Cave Spring first due with no assistance requested from neighboring companies. The total call count after the twenty-two hour shift totaled fifty-one calls (most of which came in a six hour time frame).
