CSVFD Annual Fire Banquet

Saturday, January 15, 2011  Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Department held its annual fire banquet Saturday, January 15th at the Holiday Inn Tanglewood. Approximately 130 department members and guests attended. The banquet consisted of a social hour, dinner, slide show of the year’s events, door prizes and awards. This year’s awards went to, Ethan Dressler receiving the “Rookie of the Year” award and Josh Waagmeester receiving the “Firefighter of the Year” award. These awards are given annually to members who have gone above and beyond the scope of their normal fire department duties in the past year. Jacob Quesinberry received the “Officer of the Year” award for his outstanding work with the organization and continuing training with members. Jason Cavagnaro received the “Life Member” award for his fifteen years of exceptional service. Annual years of service awards were given to members as they reach their 5-year anniversaries. The following members were recognized; Ray Potvin-5yrs, Brian Messerschmidt-5yrs, Ryan Forest-5yrs, Jason Cavagnaro-15yrs, Rob Fariss-20yrs. Each member was recognized with a certificate and service pin. This year’s Banquet not only recognized the members of the fire department but the families, friends, and relatives who make it possible for the department members to do what they do. A special thanks to Craig Sellers for putting together our banquet each year and Ray Potvin for our annual slide show.

Chimney Fire - Black Bear Lane

Sunday, January 9, 2011  Company 3 was dispatched to a chimney fire on Black Bear lane. Ladder 3 responded to assist company 7 with extinguishing the fire. Crews checked for extension in the walls and performed salvage and overhaul. The fire was extinguished with a dry chemical extinguisher. Units were on scene for approximately 2 hours before returning to service.



     



 

Vehicle Strikes Flag Pole

Friday, December 31, 2010  Company 3 was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident in front of Wachovia on Electric Road. Upon arriving units found a vehicle had went over the curb and into a flag pole.  The flag pole was partially knocked off its base and came to rest against the front of the Wachovia building.  Crews investigated the damage and secured off the area. Units were on scene for under an hour before returning to service.

     



 

Motor Vehicle Accident Colonial and Poplar

Tuesday, December 14, 2010  Company 3 was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries at the intersection of Colonial Ave and Poplar drive. Crews treated patients and stabilized vehicles. Colonial Ave was closed for close to an hour. Units were on scene for little over an hour before returning to service.

     



 

Chimney Fire

Saturday, December 11, 2010  Company 3 was dispatched to a Chimney Fire at Dawnwood. Upon arriving flames were showing from the chimney. Crews from Company 3 and 11 extinguished the fire, checked for extension in the walls and performed Salvage and overhaul. The Fire was extinguished with chimney bombs and chimney chain. Units were on scene for approximately 2 hours before returning to service.

   


 

Cooking Fire

Saturday, December 4, 2010  Company 3 was dispatched to Sunnyvale Road for a reported cooking fire. Upon arriving the fire had been extinguished. Personnel from Company 3 and 11 ventilated the structure. With no other hazards apparent units cleared and returned to service. 

     



 

Motor Vehicle Accident Electric and Colonial

Tuesday, November 30, 2010  Company 3 was dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries at the intersection of Electric Road and Colonial Ave. Crews treated patients and stabilized vehicles. Units were on scene for under an hour before returning to service.

     



 

Keagy Road Fire

Monday, November 8, 2010  Company 3 was dispatched to the 4500 block of Keagy Road around 8:20 pm for a reported structure fire. Upon arriving Wagon 3 found smoke and flames coming from the roof of a split-level home. The fire spread quickly burning through the roof. Crews had the fire under control within half-an-hour of arriving. A couple and their daughter were inside, and got out safely. The fire started in the attic of the home, fire investigators blame an electrical wiring failure for sparking the fire.
 

     



 

Trunk or Treat

Sunday, October 31, 2010  Company 3 attended this year's "Trunk or Treat" at Cave Spring Baptist Church Saturday evening. Firefighters handed out candy and gave truck tours of Wagon 3 to trick-or-treaters. 

     



 

Vehicle Extrication

Saturday, October 23, 2010  Company 3 was dispatched to an accident with a vehicle on its side. Wagon 3 arrived to find two vehicles in a "T-Bone" collision with one vehicle on its side with a patient trapped. Crews extricated the patient and controlled the scene.  The trapped victim was not injured. Units were on scene for 45 minutes before returning to service.
